The character was a young girl who had an affair with David Strathairn's teacher. Roger Ebert noted that Bruckner took on the difficult script with conviction. The role of Bruckner was nominated at the Independent Spirit Awards for "Best Female Lead". Her family consisted of two brothers and one sibling. Hungarian was her first language and was regularly practiced to achieve proficiency. Bruckner was an actress from California in Hollywood being born of Hungarian parents as well as Russian mothers, who divorced. The paternal grandparents of Bruckner were German. The couple came together in Hungary and moved into the U.S. in 1984 through a refugee camp in Italy. She is the sister of two brothers and is the mother of two more sisters.
