Bernadette Peters (born Bernadette Lazzara on February 28, 1948) is an American actress singer and children's author who hails from Ozone Park Queens New York . Her long career that spanned five decades. She's performed at shows, made solo recordings and has appeared on television. She's been nominated for seven Tony Awards and won two, as well as 8 Drama Desk Awards. Four of the Broadway cast albums on which she has starred were awarded Grammy Awards. Peters initially appeared on stage when she was a kid, and later as an actress in her teenage years during the 1960s and in film and on television during the 1970s. Her early stage performances as well as for her TV appearances, including the Carol Burnett Show The Muppet Show and Annie. In 1980, she began returning to Broadway and became one the top performers of this stage over the next three decades. Peters has recorded a number of individual album, cast albums as well as singles.
